Three days! In three days we will be on a plane, soaring over the Atlantic Ocean, on our way to our next great adventure. Our suitcases are packed, we have foreign currency, travel insurance and Google Translate. We have a well-researched and planned itinerary showcasing a diverse consideration of culture, history, art and architecture. We have comfortable shoes, compact umbrellas, reusable water bottles and sunscreen. We are ready.
I love to travel!!
It was about seven years ago now, as we recovered from a New Year’s Eve hangover, that Ken and I discovered we both secretly harboured a desire to explore the world. It was a game; write down your top three sky’s the limit New Year’s resolutions then we would compare the results. We both wrote down Mediterranean Cruise.
We laughed it off at first. We couldn’t afford it. The timing was wrong. What do we know about cruising? But for every excuse we came up with a reason why it could work. We could save a little money each month to pay for it. We could watch prices and book when trips and flights came on sale. We could travel between the peak winter and summer seasons for lower prices and smaller crowds. We could do some research and learn from others who have traveled.
About 16 months later we set sail on our first European cruise, and well, you know the rest.
This trip will be a little different for us as we will be experiencing it through your eyes now. How can we best provide guidance and advice to those of you who follow our blog? Can we take better photos, provide better direction and the best recommendations? What would we want our friends to tell us about their travels?
When we come back I hope to have a notebook full of thought-provoking story ideas and Ken a camera full of interesting and breathtaking pictures to share. And we hope you will check back with us.
” I don’t want to own a big home with a white picket fence, I just want a big enough suitcase to house my important possessions.
I don’t want to drive a fancy car, I just want a good pair of shoes to keep my feet moving.
I don’t want to read about the world, I want to see it.
My dream is to travel.”
Unknown.
See you in three weeks.
