As I mentioned last week there are so many different types of museums that there is sure to be one that will appeal to whatever your interest are. Today we will continue to discuss the options.
Who knew that there would be museums dedicated specifically to Food? Whether you are looking for a specific type of food, such as the Frietmuseum (Bruges, Belgium), devoted entirely to the best fries in the world, or a traditional way of preparing food, such as Southern Food and Beverage Museum (New Orleans) these museums are a fun way to indulge your inner foodie.
Literary Museums explore the lives and works of authors, poets, and playwrights, offering insights into their creative worlds, the historical contexts of their works, and their literary legacies. They can be explored by region, such as the Writers Museum in Edinburgh Scotland or by author.
Maritime Museums look at the relationship between the society and the seas. Whether it is to showcase ship designs, underwater archaeological finds, the development of navigation and the lives of sailors they are a great museum for anyone interested in maritime pursuits. Consider the Vasa Museum in Stockholm.
Museums that focus on Music are a must for any musician or fan. They may feature the best of such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland OH or focus on one particular icon such as Graceland in Memphis TN.
Natural History Museums are common in most major cities and house extensive collections of specimens and artifacts from the natural world. From collections of dinosaurs and whales to precious gems and preserved wildlife a visit to a Natural History Museum can be an awe inspiring learning experience for all ages. Visit American Museum of Natural History in New York or travel to London England to stop by the Natural History Museum there.
Science Museums are designed to encourage exploration by offering hands on experiences, especially for younger visitors, along with highlights of discoveries that have moved our civilization forward in medicine, engineering and technology. The Deutsches Museum in Munich is one of the largest science and technology museums in the world. There are also Science Museums in most other major cities such as London and Toronto.
Transportation is another area that deserves consideration. Whether you are into cars, trains or carriages there is plenty to enjoy and learn from looking at the design, development and preservation of the transportation of the past. My favourite was the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit.
War & Military Museums record the past in a way that helps us to remember and learn from the conflicts that have been fought. Some are more extensive, such as the Military Museum in London, and others focus on a particular country or region, such as the Juno Monument and Museum honouring Canadian soldiers in both world wars, and the Elgin Military Museum that records and honours the victories and losses from my own county.
Keep in mind I have only touched on the main topics. There are any number aimed at very specific, and ofttimes, unique pursuits, but I will let you find those for yourselves.
