As the holiday season nears and the malls become congested with shoppers it may be easier to finish your gift list with some suggestions for the travel enthusiasts in your family. Whether you prefer the hands on approach to shopping or are happy to sit in front of your computer with a glass of egg nog, our list can be easily, and in most cases inexpensively purchased either way.
- Good Luggage
Look for new luggage that is light weight, mobile and sturdy. Carryon size is a good investment if you plan to pack light (check out our article from July 2019). Add to that a durable backpack that fits the personal bag size and a hanging travel toiletry bag and your gift set is complete.
- Travel Books and Videos
If you know the destination of their next trip then purchasing a book or video is ideal since who doesn’t love unwrapping the gift from under the tree. If not select a gift card from their favourite store or online book seller and let them decide.
- A Tablet
A lightweight tablet in a well-made case not only allows the traveler access to online sites to confirm boarding passes or hotel reservations, but will hold a number of programs and applications to organize their information. Google Translate and Google Maps are essential to start, along with shortcuts to weather and banking information, directions and copies of your important documents. Most travelers carry their phone with them so the tablet is the backup in case your phone is lost or compromised.
- Foreign Currency
Giving money as a gift may seem like an easy way out, but giving foreign currency means so much more to the seasoned traveler. You could just order cash from your bank or ask about pre-paid foreign currency VISA cards that can be reloaded. These are chip and pin protected thus more secure when travelling. If you want your money directed to a specific excursion or event be sure to indicate that in your card.
- Canadian logo clothing and gear
Everywhere we travel we identify with other Canadians based on one symbol; the maple leaf. Whether you have Canadian icons slathered across your shirt or jacket, or just a simple pin on your backpack it helps to identify others as we travel around the world.
Still not sure if you have those on your list covered. Following is a list of the best stocking stuffers for travelers;
- Voltage adapter kits
- Reusable travel size containers
- Luggage tags and identifiers
- Rechargeable battery packs
- Good quality ear buds
- Sunscreen and lip balm with high SPF coverage
- Picture frames
We hope you have the best holiday season and happy travels!
